I’m going to start my 365 project again after failing in 2010. I’m determined to make it this year, if only because I am so glad to have taken some of the photos that I did last year.

So, day 1: July 14, 2011. I got off work early, grabbed Arturo and headed out to the beach to check out the sunset. It was pretty cold at Salmon Creek, but the sunset was gorgeous.

This one also doubles as photo 13/100 of my 100 Friends project.

I’m not even sure what to say about Arturo, because I kind of feel like the photo says it for me. This is basically the perfect picture of Arturo because every time I think of him, I think about his smile, and how much he makes me laugh.

I photographed some of the youth working at the Prince Memorial Greenway this morning. This one’s kind of an outtake. Not super useful for work, but I liked the shadows so I kept it.

Desiree has been one of my best friends for nearly the last decade. We met up this afternoon at Flying Goat, which is pretty much my default meeting spot.

There was a small pause in the rain this afternoon, so I went out to see the garden. We’ve had a great crop this year of all sorts of veggies, but our first batch of carrots didn’t turn out. Looks like these ones are ready to eat!

On the non-garden front, I had a great day, Elly and I met up for pupusas and clothes swaping and Katie and Amanda are over catching me up on Being Human.

Mike had a bone marrow biopsy this morning in San Francisco and I asked if I could go with him. It was definitely not the most fun trip to the city that Mike and I have ever had, but the rain let up while we were there and the wearther was beautiful. On our way back home, we stopped at the rest stop on the North side of the bridge for a quick photo.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Jon playing in more than 50 shows over the years. He was in Black Box back in the day, and has been in Fall is Here the past few years. Jon loves comic books and always seems to be in a good mood. He keeps joking about busting out some dance moves when he plays, I seriously hope it happens because it would be epic.

My mom emailed me this LA Times article about the history of my favorite chocolate cake in which the author experimented with a lemon-poppyseed variation on the recipe. Needless to say, my interest was peaked, so I made it tonight. The lemon poppyseed cake recipe is here.

Ben and Desirée took in the cat that’s been sleeping outside on their porch for the last few days. Temporarily dubbed either Roof Cat (for her habit of hanging out on their roof) or New Cat, she is the sweetest little kitten ever (excepting of course, Rahm, who wins at life).

I met Brandi when I was taking a photo of the sunlight streaming through the empty columns. She asked if I needed her to move out of the way of my shot and instead I asked her if I could take her photo. It turns out that she was there to model for her photographer friend, who is also doing a 365 project, so it was great timing on my part!

I assisted Rigel with his 365 today. I poured several gallons of water on his head for his self portrait and it was so fun to drench him that I asked if we could do it just one more time with my camera. I look a little maniacal but that was kind of the theme of the night, so I was pleased.

I was walking in to work today just as Pablo was walking out of the office with his mail cart. I already had my camera in my hand, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get today’s photo. I kept it quick, since Pablo was already on the way to his truck, but he was so nice to let me take a few shots of him.

I was leaving the SAY office when I saw the trees reflected in this puddle of water and I grabbed my camera immediately. One of my coworkers droving into the parking lot and thought I was crazy, but I suppose that it’s an acceptable price to pay.

So Mike and I had tickets to go see the Warriors play Cleveland on Monday and both of us forgot that the game was happening so we missed it Major bummer. We remembered tonight’s game against the Miami Heat though, so we headed down to Oakland for the game. All in all, the Warriors got their asses handed to them by the Heat, but basketball games are always fun and I’m really looking forward to seeing them play the Dallas Mavericks next month.

So. much. work. today! At least I got to do part of it in pjs from the comfort of my bed.

I have been wanting to test out this shot for a few weeks. If I had a tripod I think I would be a lot happier with it.

I put an offer in on this house last August, and the bank finally accepte the offer this past week. Now I have to finalize the agreement and get a mortgage and hope that nothing goes wrong! I feel like I’ve already moved in, in my mind, and I can’t wait to make it a reality.

Ian works at the Academy of Sciences in the Tidepool area, and was nice enough to be my first 100 Strangers subject. We got to talking because I was afraid to touch the starfish, but the little kid next to me was all about it. Ian told me that if the kid could do it, I could too.

And thus I struck up a conversation with him about abalone. He told me that abalone get a new hole (which they stick their grabbers through to get food) in their shell each year, so you can tell roughly how old an abalone is judging by the number of holes.

I took this photo this morning at the SAY offices. These chairs are in the hallway of the counseling offices. I suppose they’re a little zen or something.

I love the colors and the whimsy of the child’s chairs sitting on a coffee table underneath a photo of spices.

Today we bid adieu to our beloved Christmas tree.

I was setting up to use my yoga mat as the background of an entirely different photo when Rahm jumped onto the chair and made herself at home. I’m sure there will be at least a few more photos pf Rahm the cat in my 365 collection, and I had intended to save her for later, but she was too pretty to ignore today!

On a side note, her new favorite thing it to play fetch. She taught herself the game, and likes to drop her toy mouse right next to me and wait for me to throw it across the room.

I wandered outside this morning in search of a photo opportunity in the backyard. What I found was this awesome leaf print in the patio.

When I stopped by the candlelight peace vigil in Courthouse Square this evening I met Leah and her mom. I loved Leah with the candle, and I’m really glad that she (and her mom) allowed me to take her portrait.

Ben, Mike and I went to see Avatar today at the IMAX in Emeryville and Joey came to meet us for the movie.

Afterwards, we went down to Zachary’s Pizza and had the best deep dish pizza I have ever had. We got the veggie pizza and it came with a whole wheat crust, broccoli, zucchini, squash, corn, onions, and mushrooms and it was delicious!

While we were waiting for our pizza we sat outside of a cafe that was closing up for the night and watched the passers-by. We even saw one little kid walk by with a manta ray stuffed animal and the boys decided that it was the dumbest possible animal to choose to make a stuffed version of, but I thought it was adorable.

All in all, a great day with great friends.

Mickey and the Big Mouths were my personal highlight of the show. I thought they sounded great, and I had a ton of fun taking photos and testing out my new 24-105mm lens.

On our way to Placerville to check out the Gold Bug Mine, Mike and I drove through Sonoma and had to stop when we saw the town square filled with gorgeous classic Cobras (many of them original Shelby’s). The cars were all gorgeous and in beautiful shape. Mike told me that there are probably under 300 Shelby’s left in the world, and we saw a great many of them in Sonoma, so even though the Sonoma route took longer and I got us a little bit lost, it was a fortuitous detour.
